The Water and Environment Support – Biodiversity and Climate Action in the Neighbourhood South (WES-BCA) project is committed to respect the privacy of each user and comply with applicable laws on data protection and privacy. The Mediterranean Information Office for Environment, Culture and Sustainable Development (MIO-ECSDE) is one of the consortium members of WES-BCA and is responsible for Component II of the project, which focuses on Communication and Outreach on environmental and climate action. This website is part of the WES-BCA regional campaign “Our Climate – Our Community,” which is being implemented across all Partner Countries of the project.

Processing of users’ personal data is governed by these terms, by the relevant provisions of EU legislation on data protection, including the General Data Protection Regulation (2016/679) and relevant local legislation, including decisions, guidelines and regulations.

This Privacy Statement (the “Statement”) forms an integral part of our website and may be subject to modifications. This Statement explains how we collect, process and/or use information that we receive via our website and the emails we send (collectively, the “Website” or the “Campaign’s website”), as amended from time to time. This Statement also describes how we collect, process, use and share the personal information you provide us with. Collection and use of personal information

Data for this website is collected by the WES-BCA Component II Team. Personal information is collected through the on-line subscription to the regional campaign’s circulars / notifications / newsletter (via the website). The personal information collected in relation with this regional campaign may include: your first name, last name, gender, nationality, country of residence and work, your email address, your organization’s name and your job title. We do not collect personal data or information for dissemination or sell to third parties for marketing purposes. We do not usually seek to collect sensitive personal information (i.e., data relating to race or ethnic origin, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union memberships, political opinions, medical or health conditions or information specifying the sex life or sexual orientation of an individual) from users. We will, where necessary, obtain your explicit written consent to collect and use such information under Article 9 of the General Data Protection Regulation.

Your personal information is used for the following purposes:

Sending you updates about the “Our Climate – Our Community” campaign;

Keeping the members of the WES-BCA’s Mediterranean Community for Climate Action informed and engaged;

Generating statistics about our campaign’s activities;

Future collaboration opportunities;

Accessing publicly available resources, such as checklists, videos, ready-to-use activities and tools, infographics, and other materials.

The Website is not using your personal information for other purposes, unless we obtain your permission, or unless otherwise required or permitted by law or professional standards.

The legal grounds for processing personal information

Awareness and training to relevant staff to ensure it is aware of our privacy obligations when handling personal data;

Data retention

Your personal information will only be retained until one year after the end of the WES-BCA project i.e., until November 2028.

Access to your personal data and information on which data we process, the purposes of processing, the recipients, the duration of processing and other information regarding the processing of your personal data.

Rectification of your personal data if it is inaccurate or incomplete.

Deletion of your personal data, under the conditions mentioned in article 17 of the General Data Protection Regulation and the relevant local legislation.

Restriction of processing of your personal data only for specific purposes.

Ask for the portability of your data, that is to receive the data you have provided in a structured, commonly used format, or ask to send it to a third party designated by you.

To withdraw at any time your consent to the processing of your personal data, when processing is based on consent. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before consent was withdrawn.

Objection to the processing of your personal data, pursuant to article 21 of the General Data Protection Regulation and the local legislation.

If you are unhappy with the way we have handled your personal data or any privacy query or request that you have raised with us, you have a right to complain to the competent Data Protection Authority (for Greece: Hellenic Data Protection Authority (www.dpa.gr).
